About Me

About Me

My name is Jordan Dutremble and I am a senior at South Forsyth High School participating in the Honors Mentorship Program. When I am not at school or at my mentorship site, I am usually at my job, where I work about 20-22 hours a week. I work at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers in Cumming, Georgia as a CLC(Certified Learning Coach) hostess. At Red Robin, I received a promotion to be a CLC in which I train each new host and teach them everything I know. After High School, I plan on attending Mississippi State University and majoring in biology with a minor in sociology, then attending University of Alabama-Birmingham for medical school in which I will ultimately decide which medical field I will practice in. As of right now, I have my eyes on a few different occupations in the medical field, some being an OB/GYN, Anesthesiologist or Pediatrician.

My Mentorship

My Mentorship is currently in the Pre-Op section at Northside Forsyth Hospital. I chose this location because the medical field is the occupation I want to go in when I get older. Through my mentorship, I hope to gain an insight to what I will be seeing on a day to day basis, and to ensure that this is the field I want to go into. Each day, I arrive as early as possible with an open mind and positive attitude to ensure I get the most out of my day with my mentor. This opportunity is an amazing addition that I will be able to put on my resume so future employers will see this experience as a step above the others that most have not gotten to experience. In the first semester of the school year I shadowed Dr. Hamilton, and during the second semester I shadowed Lara Burnette, a RN and block nurse in Pre-op. During the first half of the year I would go to my mentorship at 5:30 a.m., get dressed in hospital scrubs, and follow Dr. Hamilton,  and observe what he does on a daily basis. Dr. Hamilton is an anesthesiologist, so I observe spinal blocks, regional blocks, epidurals, and various surgeries that he is the attending anesthesiologist for.

In the second half of the year, I shadowed Lara, a block nurse in Pre-op. Lara also happens to be one of the main block nurses in Pre-op, so some of the days she would be a Pre-op nurse and the other days she was a block nurse.  On days Lara was a Pre-Op nurse, she would make sure that patients are prepped before surgery by taking vitals, giving patients proper medication and charting paperwork. On days when she was a block nurse, she would assist the anesthesiologists with nerve blocks, by setting up a ultrasound machine for them to look at the patients nerves and inject pain medication around the nerves for up to five days of pain relief post surgery.
